About Fort Brown Park

Fort Brown is located 1 mile south of Charloe on road 171 at the confluence of the Big and Little Auglaize Rivers. In 2019 the Park Board accepted the responsibility for maintenance of this park. Since accepting the responsiblity of maintaining this park, the board has worked to slope protection along the river bank. A bench donated by the Friends of the Paulding County Parks overlooks the Little Auglaize. Future plans include a small craft boat launch.

Historical significance – A small but important historical site, Fort Brown was built on the high ground (now the west side of 171) by General William Henry Harrison during the War of 1812, to protect supplies shipped on the Auglize River. It was named for Colonel Brown who commanded the stockade.

According to local tradition, three soldiers from this era are buried at this site.

A monument erected in 1953 is a wealth of historical information. A local artist has also created several memorial stones in tribute to the significance of this area.
